Have you ever read a biography like this “Once I made the decision to ______ everything else fell in place”. Have you felt that there was a massive amount of information being left out or glossed over from these story lines?
Are they based on either too much modesty to share the hard steps or people who choose to focus only on the outcome that they wanted when they started their journey? Could it really be that simple, get clear on a goal and go?? Experience tells me the answer is both Yes and No.
Yes because once they had committed to the goal there was no other outcome that mattered and therefore no “real” obstacles were present from stopping them. It is a certainty they ran into roadblocks (if they did not the goal was too small) along the way. They just kept referring back to the decison in moments of doubt.
No because while the frequency of your radio can change in an instant your life’s frequency has been ingrained into you and your world view for a lot longer. I believe time is required for the effects of change to be felt and seen in your life. Give yourself time to see the changes while you hone your skills and learn new things.
One thing that is constant in almost all who achieve their goals is the act of breaking down the goal and focusing only on achieving today’s task. They take on a consistent approach over a set period of time and make adjustments along the way. They know or learn along the way the outcome is not the goal itself but who they become along the way towards the goal. (Jim Rohn paraphrased by yours truly)
Those who either set no goals or approach life with an attitude “I will do my best and see what happens” are missing this key step. The seldom take a journey of purpose and often lead lives of quiet desperation never going or learning anywhere new. How will you know you are growing without a north star to set your sail on? Life is meant to be fun and exciting.
Choose a direction and start now. Commit to a goal and have the conviction to make a plan to achieve it either on paper or computer. (do not close this post until you do this) Next post I will share a goal I set out and the things I learned along the way.
One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular. Tony Robbins
